If your luma version is not up to date all you need to do is go to "UNIVERSAL UPDATER" Look for "LUMA 3DS" click "BOOT" once finish downloading you should be up to date with luma version 13.0 and you should be good updating your 2ds or 3ds without a problem. Idk I've heard some people bricked their 3ds by updating it.
